Improving the tech foundations for a remote vehicle servicing platform to scale across the US and Canada

The Opportunity
Go Oil came to us at a turning point in their growth.
Their original booking and payments system, built on a third-party platform, helped validate the business early on. But as demand grew, the system became costly, rigid, and difficult to scale.

They needed something more sustainable: a platform that could support expansion across markets, adapt to new business models, and give them full control over their technology.

The Opportunity

The Opportunity
In 2019, Go Oil built a booking and payments solution for their mobile vehicle servicing with a 3rd-party solution. That solution was suitable in the short term to validate their business model, but became cumbersome and expensive to scale as they began building business momentum.

Defining our MVP

Working closely with the team, we focused on what would unlock scale without disrupting the business

Stability without interruption
Redesigned and rebuilt the front-end booking experience while keeping the existing system running, allowing Go Oil to continue operating.
Custom backend foundation
Built a new backend system designed for reliability, efficiency, and long-term scalability.
Modernized booking experience
Created a new front-end UI that improved the customer booking flow and gave the team flexibility to evolve the product over time.
Built for growth
Allowed Go Oil to quickly introduce new business models, including a subscription offering for franchisees, and provided the flexibility needed to expand into new markets.
What we built
We rebuilt and improved Go Oil's front-end appointment booking tool, and built a back-end solution that was more stable, efficient, and cost-effective for their expansion across Canada and US.

After we conducted a Design and Tech audit of Go Oil's platform, we determined not to rebuild the entire solution

Instead, our strategic move was to rebuild a new Front-End UI, that would give us time to deprecate their Back-End vendor, while Go Oil were able to continue operating their business and not interrupt sales

We built a custom Back-End solution and migrated their data without having to change the Front-End
Diagram illustrating the new backend infrastructure developed for Go Oil.
1. The original infrastructure of Go Oil utilizes an entire suite of 3rd-party offerings, which lacked flexibility and was costly.
2. Our first step was rebuilding a new Front-End UI, which solved the immediate UX issues with the customer booking flow.
3. The next step was to deprecate the Back-End of their 3rd party vendor, while GoOil continued operating their business without disruptions.
4. Once all the components were built, we were able to switch over to a completely custom solution and sever all dependencies to the 3rd party vendor.

The Outcome (So Far)

01

Product Scalability

Go Oil were able to pivot to a subscription model for their franchisees, because of the tech foundations we had implemented. We were able to add a subscription model within a few weeks.

02

Market Clarity

Successfully pivoting from a residential customer base to commercial, fleet-based enterprises.

03

Rapid Growth & Investment

From our first engagements with GoOil, they have grown across Canada and US markets, successfully scaling their business and securing funding from Investors including, the League of Innovators (LOI).

04

Long Term Partnership

Without a technical team to start, Go Oil engaged Invoke as their main development partner, and only recently hired their first developer.

“They don't just build, they think. And that made a huge difference. We got pretty hurt by our internal devs, what I really like is that your team treated us really well from the start and worked through what happened to how we can move forward."

Many other shops dive into coding without a proper plan, but at Invoke, they have winning strategies in place for both startups and our team. As we have brought on additional developers and had the code reviewed by the venture capitalist, everyone is very impressed with the quality of the code and its structure.
